Spiritual and Moral Values/Community Service
We have a commitment to service to our community through our expansive community service program. Our students develop spiritual and moral values that help create them into successful, compassionate leaders for our future. The message of the Gospel is taught in our classrooms everyday through our liturgies and special devotions.

Academic Excellence
Our academic program is challenging and diverse and offers many enrichment opportunities. We offer Advanced Placement courses as well as Dual Credit courses through Alvernia University and Penn State University, Schuylkill Campus. The Nativity BVM Nittany Scholars Program, a collaborative STEM focused partnership with Penn State Schuylkill Campus, enhances our academic offerings. Our National Honor Society continues to grow and helps our students portray the value of the education that is available at Nativity.

Extracurricular Activities
Nativity students enjoy the benefits of extracurricular activities and 14 Varsity Sports to develop community commitment, social skills and physical fitness. Our school is also dedicated to the Arts, through our music and drama programs. We also offer numerous club activities for student involvement with designated club activities meeting during school time.

International Student Program
The Nativity International Student Program makes our school a diverse learning environment. Nativity welcomes F1-Visa international students and currently enjoys a vibrant international community of young people from around the world!

On average, more than 95 percent of our graduates pursue degrees at four and two-year public and private colleges and universities, as well as the military, accepting millions of dollars in scholarship awards toward furthering their education. Special Scholarships

MARIE M. CAMPBELL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

The Marie M. Campbell Scholarship Fund was established in 1990 for the benefit of students attending Cardinal Brennan High School. The annual earnings were paid to the school to defray the tuition, in whole or in part, of students of Cardinal Brennan High School. It was the donor’s decision, written in the fund agreement, that if Cardinal Brennan closed, half the earnings would be distributed to Nativity High School and the other half to Marian High School. Ms. Campbell created this fund with a $10,000 contribution, which was only a planned “tip of the iceberg” because her Last Will and Testament provided a percentage of her Estate would be added to the fund. The principal balance is $351,122.43 and the annual earnings will benefit the students in perpetuity, which was the donor’s original intent. The 2008 annual earnings from this fund are $14,382.16 or $7,191.08 to each catholic high school for tuition assistance.
Miss Campbell was a lifelong resident of Gordon. She graduated in 1921 from St. Joseph’s High School in Ashland and worked from Citizen’s National Bank of Ashland from 1924 until her retirement in 1987. Miss Campbell passed away on April 4, 1991.

THE CURVEY SCHOLARSHIPS AND FELLOWSHIPS AT VILLANOVA UNIVERSITY

Throughout his life, James C. Curvey has demonstrated a sense of commitment and dedication to both his hometown of Mahanoy City and to his alma mater, Villanova University. Since 1999, an endowed scholarship program in his name has joined these two passions by providing financial aid resources for talented young people from Mahanoy City to pursue their education at Villanova. Strengthened through a bond of shared backgrounds and ambitious goals for the future, these scholarship recipients have maintained strong academic records, built lasting friendships, created a strong network of past and present Curvey Scholars, and developed lifelong values based on the University’s Catholic, Augustinian tradition.
The Curvey Scholars have made the most of the opportunities presented by this generous scholarship. They have excelled in the classroom, led their peers in service to others, and prepared for successful careers and rewarding lives. Through their Villanova experiences, current and past Curvey Scholars have been able to define a set of personal goals reflective of their values, capabilities, and interests. These goals have added purpose and direction to their academic experience and helped to shape their lives after college.

Key Elements of the Curvey Scholarships:

The Curvey Scholarships will provide four students each year with $12,500 in annual scholarship assistance to support the costs of tuition at Villanova.
Scholarship recipients must be graduating students from one of a select pool of high schools in northern Schuylkill County: Mahanoy Area High School, North Schuylkill High School, Shenandoah Valley High School, Marian Catholic High School, and Nativity BVM High School.
There is no separate application process for The Curvey Scholarships. Each applicant to Villanova University from the eligible schools will be considered.
Scholarship recipients must meet Villanova’s application and admissions criteria and must remain in good academic standing throughout their enrollment at the University.

The Curvey Fellowships exist as a unique complement to The Curvey Scholarships and provide resources for a focused period of independent study. There are no set parameters for The Curvey Fellowships, and students will be encouraged to take on unique projects and experiences that appeal to them. This extended opportunity outside of the classroom will allow Curvey Fellows to maximize lessons they have learned and explore interests they have formed during their Villanova experience. Through The Curvey Fellowships, recipients will be able to take stock of themselves, test their aspirations and abilities, view their lives in greater perspective, and develop a more informed sense of concern for the community.

Key Elements of The Curvey Fellowships:

Eligibility shall be limited to individual Curvey Scholars who have successfully completed their first year at Villanova. Past Curvey Scholars are eligible for the award for up to one year after graduation. Each Scholar is eligible for one Curvey Fellowship experience. The Curvey Fellowships shall be awarded for activities and study that take place primarily during the summer break.
Amounts awarded to Fellowship recipients will vary from $5,000 to $20,000.
The Fellowship award is subject to federal income tax. Representatives from Villanova University will assist the Fellowship recipients in completing necessary forms prior to receipt of their award. Submission of Federal, State, and local income tax forms is the responsibility of the recipient.
Applicants will submit a one-page essay (including a budget) indicating why the activity they wish to pursue is personally and passionately important to them. Applicants are encouraged to consult with their Academic Advisor and the Office of International Studies prior to developing their plans and budgets.
Upon completion of their project or activity, it is suggested that Curvey Fellows submit a one-page essay which describes their experience and what they have gained from it. It is also recommended that Fellows return to campus in the fall following their Fellowship to meet with current Curvey Scholars and describe their experience.

Scholarships are available for Nativity families.

Eastern Pennsylvania Scholarship Foundation
Based on income guidelines and available for all grade levels. Must be applied for online only through STS each year.

Bishop’s Catholic High School Scholarship
Available to incoming freshmen only. Applications are available at your local parish and/or feeder school.

Alumni Association Scholarship
Available to incoming freshmen only. Applications are available at Nativity High School beginning at the first Open House in January.

Dorothy Wewer Narcovich Scholarship
Available to all grades. Applicants must be a member of St. Mauritius Roman Catholic Church or St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Ashland. Applications are available through Schuylkill Area Community Foundation.

CEO America Lehigh Valley Scholarship
Available to students entering Nativity from public school only. Families must fill out their own application. Applications are available on-line at CEO America – The Children’s Education Opportunity Fund. This is a one year scholarship.

Pottsville Catholic Alumni Scholarship
Available to incoming freshmen only. Applications are available through Schuylkill Area Community Foundation.

Nativity BVM Tuition Assistance
Available to all grades. Must be applied for online only through STS each year. Federal Tax return and all pertinent forms must accompany application.

Transfer Grant Information

Any public, private, charter or home school student who transfers to Nativity BVM High School is eligible to receive a $3,000 Bishop’s Tuition Transfer Grant ($2,000 in year 1 and $1,000 in year 2), certain restrictions apply.
